"A lot of people who are religious, I think they get lost. They go to church just to go to church," he said in a cover story for V magazine.
"I'm not trying to disrespect them ... but for me, I focus more on praying and talking to Him. I don't have to go to church."
Canadian Bieber, who also has Jesus' name in Hebrew tattooed on his rib cage, added, "Now that I'm on top, everyone wants to bring me down ... Everyone's trying to tug at me and take my spot. Like Floyd Mayweather - he's the best boxer in the world. Now he is a champion. Every time he goes to a fight now, people are like, 'He's going to lose this time.'"
Bieber took a few punches last year, having been accused of fathering a child born to Mariah Yeater, who slapped him with a paternity suit in November. After Bieber vowed to take a DNA test and pursue a countersuit, Yeater withdrew her case.
On a trip to Shakey's Pizza in Sherman Oaks with his dad and some friends this week, Justin Bieber showed off a new tattoo on his leg. The episode shocked observers, pop culture watchers and those believing themselves to be curators of good taste.
Otherwise, no biggie. He's just another 17-year-old kid with Jesus' face on his leg, looking up at him all day.
Bieber already has two other tattoos: a dove and Hebrew script of Jesus' name, which matches his dad's. So I guess you'd say he has a theme going.
Bieber must be pretty sure he's not ever going to change religions. In fact, the singer isn't shy about speaking up about his religion. "I believe that Jesus died on a cross for my sins," Bieber told Billboard last November. "He's the reason that I'm here."
